Harry Kane could join Peter Shilton at the top of England's men's appearance list tonight. The captain has 124 caps and will draw level on 125 if he plays against Czechia at Wembley. He arrives in scoring form, too: two goals in Saturday's 7-0 win over Croatia took his international total to 89.

A record within reach

Kane is already England's most-capped male outfield player. He moved above Wayne Rooney during this summer's World Cup, and only Shilton remains ahead of him in the men's senior list. Rooney finished on 120 appearances; Shilton's total is 125.

A start or an appearance from the bench against Czechia would bring Kane level with the former goalkeeper. England's next scheduled games are against Croatia at Wembley on 12 November and Spain away on 15 November, giving him further opportunities to move into outright first place.

Tuchel wants the same intensity

Kane has scored in each of England's three Nations League games in this window, with four goals in all. Anthony Gordon and Kane secured the 2-0 win in Prague last week, before the captain struck twice in Rijeka. England have responded to their opening 3-2 defeat by Spain with two wins and two clean sheets.

Thomas Tuchel praised Kane's consistency at Monday's press conference, saying: “Everything he does, he does it on the highest level, he does it consecutively.” But the head coach also warned against expecting another huge score. He wants the same attitude and intensity that England showed in Croatia, even if tonight's match looks different.

Czechia have lost all three of their group games, yet Tuchel said he had seen improvement in their play. England needed second-half goals to win the first meeting. The challenge now is to carry their attacking rhythm back to Wembley without treating the result as a formality.

Kane's potential landmark gives the evening an extra edge. For England, another convincing performance would be a strong way to finish this international window; for their captain, any appearance would secure a share of a remarkable record.
