Dominic Calvert-Lewin denied Manchester United a long-awaited league win, cancelling out Bryan Mbeumo's opener to earn Leeds a 1–1 draw at Elland Road on Sunday.
Mbeumo put the visitors ahead in the 35th minute, but Calvert-Lewin levelled in the 51st. The result leaves Michael Carrick's side without a win in five Premier League matches, while Leeds remain unbeaten at home in the competition this season.
Calvert-Lewin answers Mbeumo
Manchester United took their one-goal advantage into half-time. It offered a route to a first league victory since their 5–2 win over Ipswich at the end of August, but that lead lasted only six minutes beyond the restart.
Calvert-Lewin's equaliser ensured Leeds took something from the afternoon after last weekend's 2–1 defeat at Arsenal. Neither side found a winner, leaving the teams with a point each and different reasons to reflect on what might have been.
Another draw leaves United waiting
For the visitors, the familiar scoreline tells its own story. Their last three league matches have all finished 1–1, against Fulham, Tottenham and now Leeds. Before those came a draw at Everton and defeat by Manchester City.
That five-game sequence has brought four points. United have still won only once in seven league fixtures, and Sunday's lead was another opportunity to change that picture. Instead, they leave Elland Road on seven points, with a first away league win of the season still to find.
The point does at least avoid a second defeat in a week after Tuesday's 2–0 Champions League loss at Atlético Madrid. But it does not provide the league breakthrough Carrick's team needed.
Leeds keep Elland Road unbeaten
Daniel Farke's side move to ten points from seven league games. At home, the 4–1 win over Newcastle now sits alongside draws with Brentford, Crystal Palace and Manchester United. Arsenal remain the only team to have beaten Leeds in the league this season.
Before the match, Farke had stressed the balance between playing with confidence and staying humble. Recovering from a goal down preserved a home record that gives Leeds something solid to build on, even if they could not turn the equaliser into all three points.
For Leeds, the immediate takeaway is a response to defeat and another afternoon without losing at Elland Road. For Manchester United, it is another lead that did not become a win, and a league run that remains stubbornly short of victories.
