Harry Kane has the chance to take his Champions League scoring run into double figures against Arsenal on Wednesday, but the visitors arrive in Munich with two European wins and no goals conceded.
It is a meeting of a striker chasing a rare milestone and a defence that has made a spotless start to this season's competition. Arsenal have six points from two games; Bayern Munich have four after following a home win with a draw in Norway.
Bayern host Arsenal at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday 21 October, with kick-off at 8pm BST, 9pm local time.
Kane has Ronaldo's record in sight
Kane has scored in nine successive Champions League appearances. Another scoring appearance would take him clear of the nine-game runs recorded by Robert Lewandowski and Ruud van Nistelrooy, leaving only Cristiano Ronaldo's record of 11 ahead of him.
The England captain scored twice in Bayern's 3–3 draw at Viking last week. His record against Arsenal adds another edge: UEFA records 15 goals in 22 competitive appearances against the Gunners for Tottenham and Bayern.
For Arsenal, stopping him would do more than interrupt a personal milestone. It would help preserve the defensive platform that has brought a 1–0 win at Napoli and a 3–0 home victory over Lille.
Arsenal's defence faces a Munich test
Mikel Arteta's side won 1–0 at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, following their European victory over Lille. They have responded to September's league defeat at Brighton with three straight wins across the two competitions.
Bayern, though, have won all four of their home Bundesliga and Champions League games this season, scoring 23 goals. Saturday's 6–1 defeat of RB Leipzig was the latest reminder of the threat at the Allianz Arena.
The contrast with Bayern's last European outing is striking. They opened with a 5–0 home win over Bodø/Glimt, then drew 3–3 at Viking. Arsenal's two clean sheets now meet a side that has scored eight times in its opening two games.
Bayern without Olise and Musiala
Michael Olise is suspended after his sending-off against Viking, while Jamal Musiala remains unavailable. Those absences remove two attacking options for Bayern on a night when Arsenal will try to keep Kane quiet.
There is also a question over the home dugout. Bayern said on Tuesday that Vincent Kompany was unwell and might be unable to take his place. Aaron Danks and René Maric would lead the side if he is absent; no final decision was announced in that update.
Arsenal are chasing a third European victory without a blemish. Bayern want to turn their home scoring power into another win, with Kane pursuing a place of his own in the competition's history.
