Arsenal looked set for a second straight Women's Champions League win before Paris FC scored twice in the closing stages to rescue a dramatic 2-2 draw at Stade Jean Bouin.
Russo and Stanway put Arsenal in charge
Alessia Russo finished a flowing Arsenal move to break the deadlock before half-time. It was her 20th goal in the competition, moving her clear in second place among English scorers in the Women's Champions League, one behind Fran Kirby.
Georgia Stanway then struck her first Arsenal goal after the interval, smashing in the second and leaving the Gunners with a two-goal cushion.
Paris refuse to fold
The match changed in the 72nd minute. Clara Mateo rounded Misa Rodríguez and finished to give Paris hope, setting up an uncomfortable final spell for Arsenal.
Substitute Maeline Mendy completed the comeback from the penalty spot late on. Arsenal had gone from a position of control to sharing the points, while Paris earned their first point of the league phase.
A point gained, but an opportunity missed
Arsenal remain unbeaten in Europe this season and have four points from their opening two matches. That is a solid return, but the way this draw arrived will frustrate them after they had built such a commanding lead.
The positive was the pair of scoring milestones. Russo reached 20 European goals and Stanway opened her Arsenal account, giving the Gunners something to build on before the next round.
