OL Lyonnes opened their European campaign with eight goals, a Marie-Antoinette Katoto hat-trick and the biggest winning margin since the Women's Champions League adopted its league-phase format.
Lyon turn control into a rout
Servette's difficult evening began after eight minutes when Laia Ballesté turned the ball into her own net. The Swiss champions steadied themselves for a spell, but Katoto's first goal before the half-hour opened the floodgates.
Lyon reached half-time 4-0 ahead and then scored twice more before the hour. The contest had long been settled; the only question was how far last season's runners-up would push the score.
They stopped at eight. UEFA confirmed the margin was the largest in the Women's Champions League league phase since the format was introduced in 2025/26.
Katoto takes centre stage
Katoto scored three and was named player of the match. Her hat-trick was only the second of her Women's Champions League career, seven years after she first managed the feat for Paris Saint-Germain.
The France striker supplied the ruthless finishing, but the damage came from all over Lyon's attack. Melchie Dumornay struck twice, including a deft chip, while substitute Ines Benyahia added the final goal late on.
A second Servette own goal, this time from Magdalena Sobal, completed a scoreline that reflected Lyon's control from the moment the opener went in.
A relentless start to the season
Lyon have won their first four competitive matches of the season and scored 30 goals. They began with successive 7-1 league victories over Fleury and Paris FC, followed those with an 8-1 win at Le Havre, then carried the same attacking force into Europe.
Servette were facing eight-time European champions and last season's beaten finalists, but even that context does not make an 8-0 home defeat easy to absorb. Their next European match, away to HB Køge on 1 October, now becomes an immediate test of their response.

Chelsea provide the next test
Lyon host Chelsea on Wednesday 30 September. Chelsea began with a 1-0 win over Austria Wien, but the French champions will know their next opponents offer a far sterner measure of where this European campaign can go.
